That usually isn’t about responsiveness. It’s because Singles Day is coming.

Every year around this time, we get a flood of questions from overseas buyers: Why hasn’t my container loaded yet? Why is the factory saying my sample won’t ship until Monday? The answer is almost always the same: Double 11, China’s homegrown shopping mega-festival, is taking over most of the factories and warehouses.

A lot of international buyers assume Singles Day is just a domestic e-commerce thing and has nothing to do with their B2B orders. That assumption usually causes your November and December lead times to fall apart. This article walks through what Singles Day actually is, how it hits your orders, and how overseas buyers should plan around it. In our years of doing Singles Day China sourcing, this is the one thing we remind every client about every October.

What Is Singles Day (Double 11) and Why Should You Care?

Singles Day (also called Double 11) is China’s annual November 11 shopping festival. Alibaba launched the first one back in 2009 with just 27 brands. Today it’s the biggest shopping day on the planet, no contest.

Here’s a number to put it in perspective. On Singles Day 2025, China’s State Post Bureau recorded 777 million parcels in a single day. That’s several times the volume of Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined in the US. Based on the 10-15% year-over-year growth, we estimate Singles Day 2026 will push past 850 million parcels.

But it isn’t just one day. Presales start around October 20, and factories start building stock in September. From late October through mid-November, China’s entire logistics and factory system is running for this one event.

Why does anyone doing Singles Day China sourcing need to know this? Because your factory, the same one that builds your product, is also running production for domestic e-commerce sellers on Taobao and JD.com. When those domestic orders hit, your export orders get pushed back in line.

How Singles Day Slows Down Factory Production

This is something we see every October on the ground in the Pearl River Delta.

Factories across the region — whether they make electronics parts in Dongguan, hardware and home textiles in Foshan, or small appliances in Zhongshan — run both domestic and export orders. In late October, the production queue looks like this: domestic e-commerce buyers place 50,000- or 100,000-unit orders with better payment terms and predictable volume. Your overseas order might be a 500-unit trial or a 2,000-unit reorder. Guess which one gets scheduled first.

This is the most overlooked impact of Singles Day China sourcing. Factories won’t turn you down outright, and they won’t raise your quote. They just quietly stretch your lead time. What we consistently see:

A factory confirmation that normally takes 24 hours takes three to four days in late October.

Sample approval that used to take two days takes a week, because the sample team is pulled onto domestic bulk production.

Bulk lead time that used to be 30 days becomes 45 or even 60 days.

The worst part? The factory won’t volunteer this. If you don’t ask, it just keeps sliding.

We had a US client who orders hardware parts place a 3,000-unit reorder on October 20 last year. The factory promised 30 days. At day 30, the factory said the raw materials were locked up by a domestic order and they needed another 20 days. The client assumed something was wrong with the factory. The actual reason was Singles Day.

If you’re in electronics parts, home textiles, or small hardware — the most common categories — the impact is even sharper. These are exactly the categories that sell the most during Singles Day, and factories dedicate nearly all their capacity to domestic orders. That’s the trap in Singles Day China sourcing: you think the factory is rushing your order, but it’s rushing the Taobao order instead.

Why Logistics and Warehouses Get Overloaded

Factory delays are only the first hurdle. Once your goods are done, logistics is the second one.

In early November, China’s domestic express network is at maximum capacity. Every sorting center is buried under piles of parcels. Truck drivers are scarce, and warehouse loading requires queueing. Your shipment is competing with 800 million parcels for the same road, the same warehouse floor, and the same forklifts.

The impact breaks down into three parts:

First, the inland leg from factory to port. Normally your goods move from a Dongguan factory to Yantian Port in one day. During Singles Day, truck drivers and vehicles are prioritized for domestic express, and you’re waiting two or three days just to get a truck assigned.

Second, warehousing and container loading. Many factories don’t have their own warehouse, so finished goods go to a third-party warehouse for consolidation. During Singles Day, that warehouse is full of domestic e-commerce stock, and your goods wait in line for a slot — sometimes for a week.

Third, cross-border small parcels. If you ship DDP small parcels or express (for example, replenishing Amazon FBA), the impact is even bigger. These parcels already share the same network as domestic express, and getting delayed one to two weeks during Singles Day is common.

In our years of doing Singles Day China sourcing, we’ve had to personally babysit logistics every November. The worst case was a client whose container waited four days at the factory gate because the trucking company was fully booked by domestic e-commerce orders.

The good news: international ocean container shipping itself isn’t badly affected. Once your cargo is on the ship, the voyage runs normally. The problem is entirely on the domestic leg: factory to port. That’s why those of us doing Singles Day China sourcing spend extra time visiting factories and warehouses every October.

Do Prices Actually Change During Singles Day?

Clients often ask: does Singles Day raise prices?

Direct answer: factories won’t raise your quote just because of Singles Day. But you’ll run into three hidden costs.

The first is rush fees. If you try to add an order or change a delivery date in early November, the factory will say you need to pay a rush premium, which can be 20-50% above normal rates.

The second is raw materials. Factories buy in bulk during Singles Day season, and some materials get tight in the short term. For home textile buyers, fabric prices often tick up in late October. For hardware buyers, steel can get tight too.

The third is domestic logistics fees. Domestic express and trucking rates rise 20-30% during Singles Day as a matter of course. If that cost falls on you (for example, on EXW terms), it goes straight onto your cost sheet.

So there’s a rule in Singles Day China sourcing: don’t try to change your order in late October. The cost of a last-minute change is far higher than you’d expect.

How to Plan Your Orders Around November 11

We’ve covered the problems. Here’s what to do about it.

Our advice to clients comes down to three scenarios.

First, if you’re already ordering in late October or early November. You’re better off confirming the order by the end of September and having the factory finish production by mid-October. That way your goods are in the warehouse before the Singles Day crunch, and you’re not affected.

Second, if you’re not in a rush. Avoid the three-week window from October 25 to November 15. No matter how much you push during that period, factories and logistics are overloaded and your calls won’t help. Instead, schedule your order for after November 20, when the Singles Day cargo has moved out and factories and warehouses free up again.

Third, if you actually need goods in November (for example, to hit Black Friday, which falls on November 27 in 2026). Then you have to place the order by the end of September and lock the delivery date in writing with the factory. It’s also worth having a sourcing agent monitor production progress weekly, rather than waiting for the factory to tell you something went wrong.

The advantage of working with a sourcing agent based in the Pearl River Delta is that we know which factories are domestic-heavy and which are export-only. Pure export factories are barely affected by Singles Day because they don’t take domestic e-commerce orders. Factories with high domestic sales ratios basically can’t take new orders in late October.

If you’re not sure which bucket your factory falls into, we can check the production schedule for you. The key to Singles Day China sourcing is knowing in advance whose order your factory is rushing in late October.

Singles Day itself isn’t the problem. The problem is not knowing it will hit you, and then reacting when it’s already too late. That’s the line we repeat to every client doing Singles Day China sourcing every year.

preguntas frecuentes

What does Singles Day have to do with my overseas orders?
A lot. Your factory is also running domestic e-commerce orders for Singles Day, which diverts production capacity and stretches lead times by two to four weeks. Logistics gets overloaded too. This happens every year with Singles Day China sourcing — it’s not a one-off.

Can I ship during the week of November 11?
Yes, but it’ll be slow. Trucks, warehouses, and container loading all require queueing. We recommend avoiding new orders from October 25 to November 15.

Will factories raise prices because of Singles Day?
Your quote won’t go up directly, but you might face rush fees, small raw-material increases, and domestic logistics fees up 20-30%. Don’t try to change your order in late October.

How far in advance should I order?
If you’re targeting Black Friday or Cyber Monday, confirm the order by end of September and finish production by mid-October. If you’re not in a rush, ordering after November 20 runs the smoothest.

Do export-only factories get affected?
Factories that only do export and don’t take domestic e-commerce orders are barely affected. But logistics and warehouses are shared, so inland transport still slows down. If you’re not sure, have a sourcing agent check the factory’s production schedule — that’s the most direct way to avoid Singles Day China sourcing headaches.

If you sent an RFQ to a Pearl River Delta factory in late October and heard back in three or four days instead of one, don’t take it personally.
